Tell us about the history of The August House and how it became to be a venue.
Building a place where people can gather, create stories, and (re)connect to life’s goodness has been a dream of ours for well over a decade. It just took the right property to make it all come together. The first time we walked through The August House, it was clear this was the place. It gave us the container to create everything we wanted – 11 rooms (all with their own bathrooms), two smaller common spaces for petite gatherings, a larger event space (Lillian Hall) for mid-sized gatherings, flexible outdoor space, and a commercial kitchen (to support great food experiences). Finding this combination felt like a gift. And when we held our first wedding here, it was clear that we had been blessed with something magical. The space came to life – you could truly feel the vibration of a full house. As people gathered in the front foyer, we sat on the stairs (hidden out of sight, of course!), basking in the cacophony of what a dream coming true sounds like. It was more fun than we could have imagined, and all we could think was, “Can we do this every day?!”
What makes The August House unique as a venue?
We hit a sweet spot for small to mid-sized weddings where you can get ready, get married, have a party, and go to bed, all in the same place. As part of our wedding packages, you can take over either the main house or the entire property. The space becomes yours, and that creates a special, intimate container where couples, their families, and their friends get to truly relax and just be together. We’ve built the house to be informal and easy. Everything is stylish and beautiful, but nothing is overdone or fussy. We think of ourselves as a portal into an invincible summer, and that means a delightful combination of warmth, fun, vibrancy, and ease.
If you could design a pop-up wedding, what would it look like?
A lavish, intimate midnight party where the cocktails are glorious and the food is decadent, and the entire party watches the sunrise in the morning. The front garden terrace is perfect to see the dawn arrive!
What are you looking forward to most for the upcoming wedding season?
Sharing our space and filling this house with love, on repeat. Love – in all its forms – is truly what The August House is built for. And it’s what we most want to embed in the bones of this place.
